Qigong: Qigong is a system of knowledge developed and refined in China over centuries. It is a Holistic system that recombines the body, energy (chi) and mind. Practicing Qigong is a natural way to re-engage the body’s own self-healing processes to enhance health and heal illness. Health benefits may include improvement in back and arthritis, circulation, lung capacity, immunity system and life expectancy. Classes held here Fridays 1pm to 3pm.
ME/CFS Support Group: Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a serious and complex illness characterised by incapacitating fatigue (experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina), neurological problems and a variety of other symptoms. The Wellington ME/CFS Support Group will be meeting at the Community Centre in alternate months starting Tuesday 7 February at 12.30pm. They provide a friendly environment where people with ME can find support and meet others with the same condition. They can also have a coordinator available for home visits and other assistance. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages): Classes run by Onslow College are held at the Community Centre Monday, Wednesday and Friday during school terms 9.30am to 11.30am. Please refer to the
List of Regular Activities for starting dates. In addition to the language classes Onslow also run a
Conversation Class on Tuesdays 9.30am to 11.30am and a
Writing Class on Tuesdays 12 noon to 2.00pm.
Art Classes: Always wanted to learn to draw and paint - our next 8 week course starts on Wednesday 8 February from 12.45pm to 2.45pm. Cost of the course is $80 ($10 per session) with materials at an extra minimal cost. Please phone or call in to enrol.
Vyasa Yoga: Basic Yoga Course for beginners and intermediates. Next 10 week course starts Wednesday 8 February from 6.00pm to 7.30pm - total 15 hours. Physical postures, breathing and meditation techniques, along with the science of yoga explained. Donation $80 - proceeds will be used for Yoga Therapy research so that yoga therapy can be offered as a non-intrusive alternative therapy to people all over New Zealand. Instructor Ram Bharadwaj. Wellington Video Camera Club: Come along and learn about making videos, editing and get assistance from other members. Learn how to produce better videos for your family to enjoy and make your hobby more exciting. Members receive a monthly newsletter and training DVDs are available. Johnsonville Food Bank: The Johnsonville Food Bank urgently needs supplies of non perishable food items such as tea, coffee, milo, rice, pasta, tinned fish, sugar and flour, tinned food etc. If you are able to help please leave your donation in the drop off bins at Countdown or Woolwoorths supermarkets or deliver to Citizens Advice Bureau at 1 Frankmoore Avenue, Johnsonville.
Community Gardens: Plans are underway to develop a Community Garden in the Kipling Street Play Area, close to West Park School. Local support is needed to get this project underway. Chess: Interested in playing chess? We are starting our FREE chess sessions with Andreas again on Monday from 1.00pm to 3.00pm. If you are a beginner and want to find out how to play chess or more experienced and want to play, turn up on Monday from 1.00pm.
Northern Suburbs Liaison Meeting: The next Liaison meeting is on Wednesday 30 November at 12 mid day. As this is the final meeting for 2011 we will be serving some light refreshments
